A New Home Concept-The Process

Jon lives in rural Pennsylvania and some health issues make it necessary for them to build an accessible large bungalow to make his later years easier. He provided us with a couple of sample photos to give us a sense of his style with a wish list and we set to work.

This one scratched off most of their wish list. However, it was slightly larger than their budget would allow.

This version brought the overall size closer to the target, but due to the angle of the layout, that meant some awkward spaces and an adverse effect on the budget. Keeping it simple can help control the numbers.

The final layout came in with a good-sized cathedral ceiling great room and master. The kitchen, dining, and living room is all within one space. A gracious-sized master with a walk-in closet and ensuite bath are features. This house design also has main floor laundry and plenty of storage.

A scratch-designed home always takes numerous layouts to get right. The designer always gives the clients their thoughts and reasons for designing the space the way they did. So many things need consideration like the prevailing wind, light, views, and practicality of use. This one took 7 versions to get tuned.

We can finally move on to elevations…

When we render the design we give the client plenty of views. It is so much easier to make changes during the planning process.
This client loved it and made no changes.

Photorealistic is the next stage…

We can even do a nighttime rendering to tune the lighting.
